QUETTA, Pakistan: In what appears to be an other targeted attack on law enforcers, a blast ripped through the vehicle of a top police official in Balochistan’s Capital on Thursday morning, leaving him martyred along with other police officials and a couple of others injured.

The blast took place near Chaman Housing Scheme in Quetta wherein the vehicle of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Hamid Shakeel was targeted.

Resultantly, DIG Hamid Shakeel and nine other people including civilians and policemen sustained injuries.

The injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital Quetta for medical treatment.

However Hamid Shakeel and two other police officials succumbed to their wounds.

The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operation Naseeb Ullah confirmed to media that the blast caused deaths of DIG Hamid Shakeel and two other police officials.

The security sources said that it appeared to be a suicide blast which occurred near an under-construction building on airport road.

In a statement, the Federal Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb condemned the Quetta blast.

The minister said that law enforcement agencies (LEAs) and people are giving sacrifices for the Country’s security.

Maryam Aurangzeb said that the entire nation is united against terrorism. She said that anti-Pakistan elements will always fail in their heinous designs.
