Islamabad, Pakistan: The Iliad is the divine book of the discourse of the Greeks. Homer’s epic poetry provided us with the base of social formation for over three thousand years. In the Iliad he talks about “destroyer of the people” indicating some personalities are born destroyers and sometimes their habit of destruction is so out of control that first they destroy people, ruin cities, and then weep on their acts— He says “pity on them”. One such character in Pakistan’s history is Imran Khan.

The sole agenda of Imran Khan is to destroy the state of Pakistan therefore he slanders the state, and the state institutions and tries to weaken them by discrediting them internationally. Whenever he announces any protest or movement, the facilitation of anti-Pakistan lobbies intensifies the operations against Pakistan.

The sad thing is that there is a contradiction in the words and actions of Imran Khan and his party. The party had given the statement that “we are slaves” and at the same time raised the slogan of “absolutely not”. Today, the same party is seen as an American slave and is making efforts to get every American facilitation to come to power. A clear example of this is the Pakistan Democracy Act proposed by US Congressman Joe Wilson.

Earlier last year, when Imran Khan gave a final protest call for November 24, 46 (2024) members of the US Congress, including both Republicans and Democrats, were mobilized and wrote a letter to the then President Joe Biden demanding that the US President use his influence to release the founder of PTI from extra-constitutional prison. However, even during President Joe Biden’s tenure, this foreign funding of PTI and facilitation of the Zionist lobby did not work, President Trump has also expressed coldness in this regard. Joe Wilson has previously attempted to facilitate Imran Khan but he has not yet achieved any success.

If we look closely at the “Pakistan Democracy Act” proposed by US Congressman Joe Wilson, it not only attacks Pakistan’s sovereignty but also violates US constitutional principles and international law. The purpose of this act is to adopt a new form of US intervention in Pakistan’s political and military affairs, which is not only illegal but also a clear violation of international norms.

Pakistan Democracy Act

The Pakistan Democracy Act proposed by Joe Wilson is also a clear violation of US constitutional principles in a sense. Doing so is also a clear violation of Article I, Section 8 of the US Constitution, which states that Congress has the power to regulate foreign policy through treaties and trade, but direct intervention in the political and military affairs of another country exceeds the jurisdiction of the Constitution. The proposed “Pakistan Democracy Act” violates this principle because this proposed act allows the US Congress to interfere in the internal affairs of another country, which is a violation of the separation of powers.

The Fifth Amendment to the US Constitution prohibits the imposition of sanctions on any person without due process of law or due process of law. The proposed sanctions against the Pakistani military leadership are a violation of due process of law under US law. Such sanctions are being proposed without due process of law or evidence, which is inconsistent with the fundamental provisions of the US Constitution.

The Pakistan Democracy Act proposed by US Congressman Joe Wilson also violates Article II, Section 4 of the UN Charter, which prohibits the threat or use of force against the political independence of any state under international law. The proposed “Pakistan Democracy Act” is a despicable attempt to target Pakistan’s military leadership on baseless charges of interference in its internal political affairs, which is a clear violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and political independence.

Similarly, the Pakistan Democracy Act proposed by Jolson is also a violation of the Vienna Convention, according to which the sovereignty of any state must be respected, and interference in the internal affairs of a state is against international diplomatic principles. Threatening the Pakistani leadership and interfering in their affairs through this act is a clear violation of diplomatic principles. Under Article 25 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, citizens have the right to choose and determine their political leadership, without pressure or coercion from any external government. The proposed “Pakistan Democracy Act” violates this right, as it makes the Pakistani people vulnerable to external interference in the choice of their government.

The proposed “Pakistan Democracy Act” is clearly a nefarious attempt to damage US-Pak bilateral diplomatic relations. Here, it is important to ask Imran Khan and his US facilitators who write letters that on the one hand, Imran Khan has been raising false slogans of liberating the people of Pakistan from American slavery, and on the other hand, he is now begging US Congress for its extra-constitutional release from jail. Isn’t this the hypocrisy of the founder of PTI?

The Impact of the Bill

  1. Joe Wilson, a known anti-Pakistan character and lobbyist has introduced a so-called “Pakistan Democracy Act” on the behest of PTI which has been working relentlessly to initiate anti-Pakistan steps from the new US administration of President Trump.
  2. To date, since President Trump took oath into office, other than this political gimmick of Joe Wilson, nothing else has worked for PTI to seek undue, illegal, and supra-constitutional favors from the Trump administration.
  3. It’s a matter of utter shame and disgrace for both Joe Wilson and PTI as it’s the same party that brazenly and ridiculously blamed the USA for conspiring against Imran Khan and toppling his government through a well-planned conspiracy. Joe Wilson for making bucks has certainly ignored that US humiliation at international fora by PTI and Imran Khan.
  4. Introducing this anti-Pakistan Act for sure will not change anything in Pakistan as Pakistan is a sovereign country and takes its sovereign decision as per its constitution and the laws of the land. However, this vicious Act has exposed the heinous and the most hypocritical face of PTI which on one side shamelessly keeps barking on slogans like “Real Freedom and “US Slavery Unacceptable.
