MUZAFFARABAD, Pakistan: Unidentified persons opened fire at a Shia cleric and his wife in Muzaffarabad on Wednesday, leaving both seriously injured.
The Deputy Inspector of Police Sardar Gufraz told media that the incident occurred on Muzaffarbad-Choukoti road where Allama Taswar Jawadi was traveling on motorbike with his wife from Muzaffarabad to Gari- Dopata.
But in the meantime, unknown persons in a black Corolla intercepted Allama Taswar Jawadi at Rawani bridge, and opened indiscriminate fire on them.
Resultantly, Shia Cleric Allama Taswar Jawadi and his wife received serious injuries, and were shifted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) where according to sources, Jawadi received more than 8 bullets in his neck and lower body.
Soon after the incident, hundreds of protesters gathered at Almadar Chouk in the middle of the City and burnt tires in protest, blocking the road which created traffic jams for hours and normal life was badly disturbed.
Local police said they were investigating the incident and attackers would be arrested. Motive behind the attack was yet to be ascertained.
