24 militants killed in SWA, Orakzai

WANA: At least seven personnel of the security forces and 24 militants were killed in clashes in restive South Waziristan and Orakzai agencies on Saturday, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported on 24 March, 2012.

Security officials said twelve militants and four soldiers were killed in a fight in Sheen Warsak area, some 15 kilometres to the west of Wana, the headquarters of South Waziristan Agency.

In a clash in Orakzai Agency three soldiers and 12 militants were killed and four soldiers sustained injuries, officials said.  They said the security forces were on a routine patrol in Khadizai area when a group of militants attacked them with heavy weapons.

They added that three soldiers were also killed while four others were wounded in a pre-dawn attack by the militants. While 12 militants are also reported to have been killed in the clash and an explosives-laden vehicle was destroyed.
