Saulat Mirza to be executed on May 12

KARACHI, Pakistan: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi on Saturday issued fresh death warrants for condemned prisoner Saulat Mirza.

His execution will be carried out at Balochistan’s Machh Jail on May 12 at 5:30 am.

It was the third time that Saulat Mirza’s death warrants were issued.

The former Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) activist Saulat Mirza was scheduled to be hanged to death in Machh jail on March 19.

However a few hours before he was to be executed, the murder convict in a video statement from death cell alleged that he received the order to kill the then Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) director from the party Chief Altaf Hussain. Later, his hanging was delayed because of health problems on the request of jail authorities.

On March 24, another black warrant for Saulat Mirza was issued for a hanging on April 1 but President Mamnoon Hussain stayed his execution.

Saulat Mirza was sentenced to death by an ATC in May 1999 for killing the former managing director of the KESC Shahid Hamid, his driver Ashraf Brohi and guard Khan Akbar in July 1997.
