President Mamnoon rejects 55 appeals seeking pardon against death penalties

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Mamnoon Hussain has rejected 55 appeals, seeking pardon against death penalties.

The reports said that out of 55 persons sentenced to death by various courts, eight are involved in cases related to terrorism.

The punishment is likely to be implemented anytime, the reports further said.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif gave approval of implementation on death sentences awarded to terrorists.

The prime minister gave the approval in the wake the country’s bloodiest ever terror attack in an army public school in Peshawar, claiming lives of 141 persons mostly children.

“The prime minister has abolished the moratorium on death penalty in terrorism-related cases,” the prime minister office said.

The president addressing the third International Seminar on Health, Safety and Environment organized by Fauji Fertilizer Bin Qasim Limited in Karachi on Wednesday, assured the nation that action against terrorists will continue until the last terrorist in the country is eliminated.

“We will never be deterred by such barbaric acts of terrorism as nation is determined to foil all kind nefarious designs against the country,” the president said in a particular reference to killing of 132 students by terrorists in Peshawar on Tuesday.

President Mamnoon said that Pakistan has rendered huge sacrifices in the war against terrorism and our main women and children have laid their lives in our mission to make Pakistan in the region and world better place to live.
