PESHAWAR, Pakistan: A policeman was martyred and at least 16 others people were injured in two back to back blasts in Peshawar early Wednesday morning.

According to police, the blasts occurred in Mathra locality where two improvised explosive devices (IED) went off one after the other.

Officials said the first explosion targeted a police van, injuring two personnel, a Private news channel reported.

The second blast proved fatal and caused more injuries in the presence of policemen and media persons in the same area.

Members of bomb disposal squad and TV channels were also among those injured. They were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital.

Security forces cordoned off the area and searched for militants who often target police and security forces in Peshawar.
