KARACHI: Two senior police officers were killed on Thursday in exchange of fire with bandits in Karachi as law enforcers claimed to have arrested two robbers following the encounter.

Officials said the shootout took place inside the Safari Park in Gulshan-e-Iqbal town where police arrived on a tip off about some armed bandits.

In the exchange of fire, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Asif received multiple bullets and died on the spot.

DSP Qasim Ghauri, who was first injured in the shootout, breathed his last in a hospital during the treatment.

Another officer, SHO Malik Saleem, as also injured in the gunplay which started at around 8:00 pm and was underway till 10:00 am.

Later, police claimed to have arrested two bandits and called more contingents, commandos and armored vehicles to battle the outlaws in heart of the city which is plagued with political and ethnic violence, gang war and militant activities.
