PakistanPM seeks religious scholars’ role to promote peace, stability

ISLAMABAD: The religious scholars should come forward to promote peace and stability in the country through the message of love and brotherhood, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf said on Wednesday.

“All religions of the world preach love‚ brotherhood‚ harmony and respect for others’ rights. No religion allows its followers to impose their will and way of life on others,” said the Prime Minister in conference on interfaith harmony held in Islamabad.

“Every person has the right to practice philosophy and faith of his own choice,” he further said.

The Prime Minister said it is a matter of grave concern that innocent people including women and children are being targeted in the recent acts of terrorism in the country.

“Those perpetrating such acts have nothing to do with the humanity,” he said, adding that the acts of terrorism are bringing bad name to both the country and our great religion Islam.

PM Ashraf said members of the Hazara community are our brothers and Pakistani and the entire nation is in distress over the attack on them. He said such kinds of incidents cannot be justified in any manner‚ asking the media to stop portraying law breakers as heroes.

The Prime Minister said though it is the duty of the government to ensure law and order situation in the country‚ yet responsibility also rests with all segments of the society to abide by the law and play their role for maintenance of peace and stability.
