KARACHI: Hundreds of people came out into the streets across the country to protest against Sunday’s brutal attack in a church in the restive northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar, demanding exemplary punishment to the perpetrators of the terrorist act and adequate security for the Christian community.

Meanwhile, the president of the Bishop Church of Pakistan appealed to protestors to remain calm and not resort to violence, adding that miscreants were turning the protests violent.

The protests and rallies were staged in various areas of Karachi like Hassan Square, Civic Centre, Landhi No 5 and 6. The protesters chanted slogans against government’s negligence, burnt tyres and blocked the roads.

Similarly, protests were also held in different cities of the country, like Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Khushab, Burewala, Faisalabad, Chichawatni and other cities.

On Sunday, two suicide bombers wreaked havoc with two consecutive blasts amongst hundreds of innocent Christian worshippers outside an old church in Peshawar, killing 81 persons and wounding over 180 others.
