ISLAMABAD: Government of Pakistan will continue to facilitate for the early completion of all formalities and hand over the mortal remains of the prisoner Sarabjit Singh to the Indian High Commission at the earliest possible.

A Foreign Office Spokesman said in Islamabad today that Pakistan had been providing all assistance to the family of Sarabjit Singh and to the Indian authorities since the occurrence of this unfortunate incident‚ Indian prisoner‚ Sarabjit Singh who was hospitalized on 26th of last month‚ following injuries sustained during a scuffle with fellow inmates‚ expired early this morning at Jinnah Hospital‚ Lahore.

He said the prisoner‚ who had been in a comatose state and on a ventilator for the last few days‚ was being provided the best treatment available and the medical staff at Jinnah Hospital had been working round the clock since his hospitalization to save his life.

However‚ despite their best efforts‚ they could not save him and Sarabjit Singh passed away due to cardiac arrest.

Indian spy and a death row prisoner Sarabjit Singh died in Jinnah Hospital‚ Lahore last night where he was under treatment.

Sarabjit Singh was attacked by 2 inmates at the Kot Lakhpat Jail‚ Lahore on April 26‚ Friday.

He had received serious head injuries. Singh was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Jinnah Hospital.

Sarabjit’s body has been shifted to a morgue and security around the hospital had been tightened.

Meanwhile‚ a medical board is being set up for the postmortem of Sarabjit Singh. Besides‚ Medical Superintendent Jinnah Hospital‚ senior doctors and pathologists will be included in the board.

Sarabjit had admitted killing of 14 Pakistanis in blasts in Lahore and Faisalabad in 1990.

According to police‚ a case has been registered against the accused involved in murder of Sarabjit Singh.

Meanwhile‚ Indian Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde has said arrangements are being made to bring Sarabjit Singh’s body to India.

He said we shall wait for the postmortem of the deceased.
