Nawaz recommends to reject mercy appeals of five convicted terrorists

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has recommended President Mamnoon Hussain to reject mercy appeals of five death row prisoners.

The recommendation was made by the prime minister through a letter on Friday.

The prisoners were convicted for their involvement in terrorism cases and subsequently awarded death penalties.

The death row convicts include Muhammad Ikramul Haq, Muhammad Ikramul Haq, Ahmed Ali alias Asif, Muhammad Tayyab and Ghulam Shabbir.

Earlier on Thursday, the president rejected mercy appeals of five convicted terrorists including Saulat Mirza, Muhammad Saeed Awan, Talha Hussain, Shahid Hanif and Khaleeq Ahmed.

The authorities have executed seven terrorists in Faisalabad and Peshawar jails after the prime minister lifted a six-year moratorium on death penalty for those convicted for terrorism on December 17.

The prime minister allowed the implementation of death penalty in the wake of a deadly terror attack on army public school in Peshawar that left 150 persons mostly children killed.
