QUETTA, Pakistan: Law enforcement agencies (LEAs) carried out 1,945 activities including search operations in Balochistan under National Action Plan (NAP), during which 9529 suspected persons including 423 suspected terrorists were arrested while 48 alleged terrorists were killed.

In an interview with APP here on Tuesday, Additional Home Secretary Balochistan, Zafar Iqbal said that progress and development on implementation of National Plan Action (NAP) were achieved as security forces carried out 1,945 activities including security and search operations in different districts of Balochistan including Quetta, Pishin, Chaman, Zhob, Ziarat, Loralai, Dera Bugti, Kohlu, Bolan, Mastung, Kalat, Khuzdar, Awaran, Turbat and others, during that 9529 suspected persons were taken into custody.

The law enforcement agencies including Frontier Corps (FC), Police and Levies Force have been continuing their efforts to curb terrorism from the province.

423 suspected terrorists were also among the arrested suspects while 48 terrorists were killed in encounters with FC, Police and Levies Force, he said.

He said that during the security operations against terrorism under NAP, around 100 personnel from Police, over 70 from FC and over 30 from Levies Force have martyred while over 80 personnel from Police, over 200 from FC and over 25 from Levies Force sustained injuries.

He said that several high level meetings have been held in the provincial capital Quetta to review pace of implementation of NAP and two of them were presided over by Prime Minister, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif which were also attended by Federal Interior Minister, Chaudhary Nisar, Chief of Army Staff, General. Raheel Sharif and other senior civil and military officials.

He said that law and order situation has been improved at satisfactory level after serious and hectic efforts were put to implement NAP in Balochistan. He said that security and vigilance have also been tightened at Balochistan’s borders with Iran and Afghanistan where heavy contingent of border forces have been deployed.
