NACTA sets up phone line for terror-related complaints

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) has established a phone line having number “1717” for terrorism related complaints.

It came on Tuesday on the directives issued by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The interior ministry has appealed to all citizens to remain vigilant of their surroundings, and give information on this number in case they witness any suspicious person or activity.

Earlier on December 27, the prime minister during a special meeting held in Islamabad directed to make the NACTA functional with immediate effect.

An executive meeting of the NACTA is also schooled to take place on Wednesday with the federal interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in the chair.

The meeting will discuss and review strategies regarding administrative and professional matters of the institute.

The federal government and the country’s armed forces have taken several initiatives including adopting a 20-point national action plan to counter terrorism and extremism as well as speeding up the ongoing military operations against the militants following the Peshawar school terror attack.

The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) earlier this month also established two universal telephone numbers for the general public to report any suspicious activity.

The general public was asked to report any activity in Punjab, Balochistan and Sindh provinces regarding terrorists at the phone number 1135 and for Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa at 1125. These numbers can be dialed directly from mobile phones or PTCL numbers.
