Cruising on the road of power, Mullah Fazulullah at last compelled Taliban Shura (Top leadership that decides matters) to revert its decision to place Khan Said Mehsud alias Sajna as chief of Taliban after the death of Hakimullah Mehsud in a drone attack. Muallah Fazlullah is consider as pro-India Talib faction by the Pakistan Army.

Taliban announced the name of Sajna as new chief but Fazullah refused to accept him stating that Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is not a family business of Mehsud tribe. It may be mentioned that TTP leadership had always been with Mehsud tribe since its inception. Fazlullah is first non-Mehsud chief of TTP. After the death of the founder of TTP Baitullah Mehsud in a drone strike, the leadership went to Hakimullah Mehsud and now after his death in another drone strike, Taliban placed Khan Said Mehsud as new chief but Mullah Fazullah refused to accept this decision and put pressure on Taliban leadership to install him as new chief of TTP.

Mullah Fazullah is the man who tried to kill world famous Malala Yousifzai and killed Pakistan Army General Mr. Niazi in Swat. He ruled Swat valley of Pakistan for a long time till Gen. Niazi got hold of Swat valley after a tough fight and Mullah Fazulullah ran to Afghanistan where he is personal guest of Governor of Kunar province.

Having zero tolerance level for Pakistan Army, Mullah Fazlullah is one of the worst enemies of Pakistan Army and his appointment as chief of TTP has created an interesting situation for establishment of Pakistan that talks about “Good Taliban and Bad Taliban” theory because now only Bad Taliban are ruling TTP according to top circles of Pakistani establishment.

It may be mentioned that the Shura of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Thursday decided to appoint Mullah Fazlullah, a fugitive leader of Swati Taliban, as their new chief, the TTP caretaker leader Asmatullah Shaheen told media from an undisclosed location.

TTP has refused to hold talks with the Pakistani government. Mullah Fazlullah who took the responsibility of killing Gen. Niazi of Pakistan Army and he has direct enmity with Pakistan Army who rooted him out from Swat valley. “There will be no more talks as Mullah Fazlullah is already against negotiations with the Pakistan government,” said the spokesman, rejecting the idea of any further peace talks.

How is Mullah Fazlullah?

Maulana Fazlullah was born as Fazal Hayat to Biladar Khan, a Pukhtun of Babukarkhel clan of the Yusufzai tribe of the Swat District in 1974.

Fazlullah married the daughter of Sufi Muhammad, the founder of Tehreek-e-Nafaz-e-Shariat-e-Mohammadi. He was a manager of a bus stand in Mingora before becoming a religious leader of Swat in late 90s.

On January 12, 2002, Fazlullah became the leader of Tehreek-e-Nafaz-e-Shariat-e-Mohammadi after the arrest and capture of Sufi Muhammad.  Sufi Muhammed was freed in 2008, he did not seek to usurp Fazlullah’s leadership in the TNSM. Fazlullah managed to restore the organization, bootstrapping on the relief efforts by Islamist extremist groups following the 8 October 2005-earthquake. In February 2009, Sufi Muhammad assisted in the negotiation of a cease fire between TNSM forces and the Pakistani army. As part of the cease fire Pakistan agreed to allow Sharia law in Malakand District. In the aftermath of the 2007 siege of Lal Masjid, Fazlullah’s forces and Baitullah Mehsud’s Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) formed an alliance. Fazlullah and his army henceforth reportedly received orders from Mehsud. A temporary cease-fire from May to September 2007 allowed Fazlullah to consolidate his political forces in Swat. With the support of more than 4,500 armed militants, by late October 2007 Fazlullah had established a “parallel government” in 59 villages in Swat Valley by starting Islamic courts to enforce sharia law.

Fazlullah enforced a complete ban on female education in the Swat District. Some 400 private schools enrolling 40,000 girls had been shut down. At least 10 girls’ schools that tried to open after the January 15, 2009 deadline by the Fazlullah-led Taliban were blown up by the militants in the town of Mingora, the headquarters of the Swat District. More than 170 schools had been bombed or torched, along with other government-owned buildings. On 9 October 2012, an assasin instructed by Fazlullah shot Malala Yousafzai.
