PESHAWAR, Pakistan: More than 38 terrorists were killed when Pakistan military fighter jets pounded their hideouts in the restive northwestern tribal region on Thursday.
The security sources said that the fresh aerial strikes were carried out in Lawara Mandi area of North Waziristan’s Datta Khel tehsil which left more than 30 terrorists killed.
They said that the air strikes caused destruction of several hideouts of the terrorists.
Separately, the air strikes also targeted terrorists’ hideouts in South Waziristan and killed eight terrorists.
Five hideouts of the terrorists were also destroyed in the South Waziristan air strikes.
The air strikes supported by ground military operation continue in North and South Waziristan agencies as part of the operation Zarb-e-Azb since June 2014.
Meanwhile, the Counter Terrorism Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa conducted a search operation in Gandigar area of Upper Dir and arrested a ring leader of terrorists Fakhruddin.
The official sources said that Fakhruddin was wanted in a suicide attack in a mosque in Upper Dir in 2009 in which 30 people were martyred.
Likewise, the security forces also arrested 60 suspects from various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kohat district on Thursday morning and recovered arms and ammunition from their possession.
Both the operation Zarb-e-Azb and search operation under the anti-terror national action plan are being conducted with an ultimate objective of ending the militancy across the country.
