DERA ISMAIL KHAN: 30 hardcore militants were freed out of 250 inmates in DI Khan jailbreak. Possible targets of escaped terrorists are processions of Shahdat Ali all over the country, claim sources. The is second biggest event of jail break by terrorists in Pakistan within one year as last year they broke Bannu jail and got their 170 terrorists friends free from jail including suspect of attack on former President gen Musharraf.

It may be mentioned that Taliban managed to free nearly 250 inmates from the Central Jail in Dera Ismail Khan after they armed with mortars and grenades attacked the Jail, which housed around 5,000 prisoners, late on Monday.

At least 11 persons including five policemen were killed and seven others injured in the brazen attack which targeted the Central Prison in Dera Ismail Khan, Deputy Commissioner Mushtaq Jadoon said. Taliban have taken the responsibility.

A curfew was imposed in Tank and D I Khan towns as a search operation continued to apprehend the escaped fugitives.

“A total of 243 prisoners have escaped, six of them were later arrested by police,” Jadoon said, adding that “30 among the escaped prisoners were hardcore militants”.

Jadoon said militants had planted dozens of explosive devices in the jail and 14 of them had so far been defused. “Police and other law enforcing agencies are busy in clearing the jail,” he said.

The Deputy Commissioner said around 50 to 60 militants managed to enter the jail as others fired rockets from outside.

Police said a suicide bomber was also killed in retaliation.

Meanwhile, the outlawed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) new spokesman Shahidullah Shahid has accepted responsibility for the attack. Speaking to media, he said that around 100 militants took part in the attack including a number of suicide bombers among them.

The TTP spokesman said the TTP has achieved their targets and their operation was successful.
