BIRMINGHAM: Malala Yousafzai has thanked her many supporters around the world for their good wishes as she recovers after being shot by the Taliban in Pakistan, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported on Tuesday.

The 15-year-old Pakistani child activist shot in the head by the Taliban in October last year underwent pioneering surgery over the weekend when surgeons attached a titanium plate to bridge a gap in her shattered skull.

In a message recorded before the operation, the schoolgirl expressed her hopes for the future and the work that she intends to undertake through the charitable fund which has been created and which bears her name – ‘The Malala Fund’.

“Today you can see that I am alive. I can speak, I can see you, I can see everyone and…I am getting better day by day. It’s just because of the prayers of people. Because all people – men, women, and children – all of them have prayed for me,” Malala said.

Malala credited her supporters around the world with aiding her recovery, saying “And because of all these prayers God has given me this new life…a second life. And I want to serve. I want to serve the people. I want every girl, every child, to be educated. For that reason, we have organised the Malala Fund.”
