RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench has voided the death sentences of four terrorists and ordered their immediate release.

The four death row convicts including Tahir Mehmood, Habibullah, Fazal Muhammad and Hafiz Naseer were sentenced to death by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi in 2004 for their involvement in the suicide attack at Shah-i-Najaf Imambargah in Rawalpindi in 2002.

Later, the convicts filed an intra-court appeal against their death sentence.

A two-member bench of the LHC comprising Justice Ibadur Rehman Lodhi and Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin heard the case on Monday pertaining to the intra-court appeal filed by the convicts.

The convicts’ counsel Babar argued before the count there was no solid evidence which showed that his clients were responsible or associated with the attack on the Imambargah.
