Khbyer-1: 19 more militants killed, 27 injured in aerial strikes

PESHAWAR, Pakistan: At least 19 militants were killed while 27 others injured in aerial strikes by fighter jets in Tirah valley in the Khyber tribal region. 

The airstrikes were carried out in Akka Khel, Malikdin Khel and Koki Khel areas of the agency.

Moreover, five hideouts of the militants were also destroyed in the airstrikes.

The latest airstrikes were part of the operation Khyber-1 launched in October in Bara and Tirah Valley of Khyber agency against Lashkar-e-Islam (LI), a banned militant organization active in and around the tribal region and is currently headed by Mangal Bagh.

PM Nawaz appreciates PAF’s role in operation against militants

The Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad on Wednesday and discussed professional matters of the Pakistan Air force (PAF).

The prime minister appreciated the role played by the PAF in the ongoing operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan agency.

The Chief of Air Staff also presented a cheque of Rs32 million to the prime minister for the internally displaced persons (IDPs).

On Saturday, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif visited Corps Headquarters Peshawar and reviewed the progress of ongoing military operations Zarb-e-Azb and Khyber-1.

The army chief was briefed on next phases of operations, according to the Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Asim Saleem Bajwa.

The DG ISPR said that the army chief expressed his complete satisfaction on the progress of operations and achievements made so far.

The military said that so far more than 150 militants have been killed while over 400 militants have surrendered during the operation in Khyber agency.
