Key Haqqani network commander Haji Gul killed in US drone strike

PESHAWAR: A US drone that fired eight missiles in Dande Darpakhel area near North Waziristan earlier in the day left some prominent Afghan Taliban commanders including a key Haqqani network commander Haji Gul killed.

At least 16 suspected militants were killed in two successive US drone strikes in Dargah Mandi and Dande Darpakhel areas of North Waziristan tribal region on early Thursday.

The media citing sources reported that other Afghan Taliban commanders killed in the US drone strike in Dande Darpakhel were identified as Mufti Sofian, Commander Abu Bakar, Commander Yasin Gardezi, Abdullah Khan, Commander Jamil, and Commander Asadullah.

The intelligence and local Taliban sources also confirmed that the drone strikes in Dande Darpakhel area targeted some explosive laden vehicles which were meant for some mission across the border.

The local Taliban and tribesmen also confirmed that the compound targeted in the attack belonged to members of the Afghan Taliban network.
