Karachi school attacked with grenade; no casualty

KARACHI, Pakistan: Unknown miscreants threw a grenade on a private school in Gulshan-i-Iqbal Block area of Karachi on Tuesday morning; however, luckily no human loss occurred.

The blast took place at a time when no students or staff members were present in the school because the educational institution had not been opened yet.

The Sindh education minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro took notice of the blast and sought a report over the incident from Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi police.

Later, another explosion took place near a vehicle of the Pakistan Rangers in SITE area of Karachi.

The superintendent of police (SP) SITE said that it was low intensity blast and no loss of property or life was caused by it.

On December 16 last year, the country witnessed one of the deadliest terror attacks in recent years that hit an army-run school in northwestern Peshawar city and claimed lives of 150 persons mostly school children.

Following the attack, directives were issues for educational institutions across the country to ensure that complete security arrangements are made. The winter vacations for all government and private schools were also extended till January 12 due to the security concerns.
