ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The on-going operation against criminals in Karachi has helped decreased 53 per cent incidents of target killing and 50 per cent murder incidents.

There is a visible improvement in security situation throughout the country, particularly in Karachi, since the present government assumed office in June 2013.

A data showing implementation status of National Action Plan (NAP) on Saturday revealed that terrorism in Karachi witnessed downtrend by 80 per cent, dacoity 30 per cent and extortion reduced 56 per cent due to the Rangers operation in Karachi.

The data said a total of 69,179 criminals, 890 terrorists, 676 proclaimed offenders, 10,426 absconders, 124 kidnappers, 545 extortionists and 1,834 murderers were also apprehended and 16,306 weapons recovered during the Karachi operation.

Similarly, under NAP, 3,416 Afghan refugees have been deported including 2,844 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), 195 from Balochistan, one in Islamabad and 376 from Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

Moreover, 25 centres were established in the country for registration of Afghan refugees.
