ISLAMABAD: Sikandar, a gunman who held Islamabad hostage for over five and a half hours on August 15, had links with a banned militant outfit, Inspector General Police of Islamabad Sikandar Hayat told a news conference in Islamabad on Monday.

The IGP said that Sikandar underwent military training in 1996 after which he started raising funds for the same banned organization in Dubai. He was arrested by Dubai Police in 1998, he said.

Moreover, the IGP said one of the reasons for delay in handling the incident was presence of a large media coverage team at the spot. He said there should be code of ethics for coverage of such incidents.
