RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif said that they will break the nexus between drug dealers, financiers and perpetrators of terrorism.

“We will break the nexus between drug dealers, financiers and perpetrators of terrorism,” the said during his visit to Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Monday.

The army chief said that drug peddlers and those involved in its production are as much detrimental to national security as terrorists.

The COAS emphasized that drug money is being used for promotion of terrorism also and therefore it is important that drug dealers are dealt with iron hands.

“We will not allow these drug barons to negatively influence and spoil our future generations,” he said.

The Director General ANF Major General Khawar Hanif gave a detail briefing to the army chief on various aspects related to ANF operations to counter drug smuggling.

During the briefing, the DG ANF apprised the COAS of international and regional drug situation and its negative effects on our society including ANF’s Strategy and efforts for ensuring ‘Drug Free Society’, challenges faced and Five Years Force Development Plan.

The COAS appreciated ANF’s endeavors on record seizures in 2014 and 2015 which helped in curbing the menace domestically and internationally. He also valued achievements of the force in maintaining Poppy Free Status for Pakistan.

Earlier, the Deputy Under Secretary of US Air Force Heidi Grant called on the army chief in Rawalpindi and discussed matters of mutual interest including regional stability.
