PESHAWAR: As many as 45 prisoners who escaped after the Taliban attack on DI Khan’s central jail have been rearrested by law enforcement personnel, security forces claimed on Wednesday. Moreover, a case of the jailbreak has been registered against the unidentified attackers in the Chaowni Police Station.

Furthermore, Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police, Ihsan Ghani, has suspended 27 policemen including a superintendent of police (SP) over the incident whereas District Police Officer of Dera Ismail Khan, Khalid Sohail, has been made Officer on Special Duty (OSD)

According to security officials, the rearrested convicts have voluntarily surrendered themselves to police and that a search is still underway to apprehend as many escaped prisoners as possible.

Security forces also released a list of 252 prisoners who had gone missing after the Taliban attack on DI Khan’s central prison. The list includes the names of 11 high-profile terrorists who escaped from Barrack No 11.

It is pertinent to mention that the militants early on Tuesday morning helped 243 prisoners escape from the Dera Ismail Khan’s central prison after killing 12 people, including six policemen, while five attackers were also killed.

The IGP KPK told that 60 to 70 men, armed with heavy weapons and explosives, carried out the attack during which around 250 prisoners managed to escape.

A number of hardened militants were among the inmates of the Dera Ismail Khan Central Prison. Among them was Walid Akbar, who had been awarded 1,616 years jail sentence for his involvement in bombing of the Ashura procession in the city last year.
