ISLAMABAD: Thousands of people took to the streets across Pakistan on Sunday to protest against the deadly blast that killed 84 people and injured around 200 other people in Quetta, the capital of the restive Balochistan province, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

Early on Saturday evening, a suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden water tanker vehicle a packed bazaar near Hazara town, an area dominated by Shias on the outskirts of Quetta, at around 6:00 pm (local time) that claimed scores of precious lives of Shias.

The Balochistan government announced one-day while Shia organizations announced three-day mourning in the province over the incident.

A complete shutter down strike was observed today in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan to mourn Saturday’s terrorist incident.

While on the call of different organizations including Majlis-e-Wahdat-ul-Muslimeen (MWM), Hazara Democratic Party, Shia Ulema Council, Quetta Yakjehti Council, Tehrik-e-Nifaz-e-Fiqah Jafria, Balochistan Shia Conference and others, protest rallies and sit-ins were staged in various cities of the country today.

Scores of people gathered in Lahore and staged a sit-in in front of Governor House. Participants of the sit-in called for the arrest of killers within 48 hours.

Likewise, people took to the streets and staged rallies and lodged protests and sit-ins in Karachi, Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Khairpur, Badin, Obarho, Dharki, Ghotki, Jacobabad, Kandhkot, Lahore, Layyah, Pindi Bhatian, Faisalabad, Multan, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Skardu and other parts of the country.

Moreover, all Key business centers remained shut amid high security in most parts of the country. In addition, flow of traffic was also below normal on roads.

On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
