PESHAWAR: A suicide blast occurred followed by gunfire near the Iranian consulate in University Town Peshawar on Monday that left two Frontier Corps (FC) personnel dead, police said.
Police said that a suicide bomber got off a car and detonated his explosive laden vest near a FC check post, killing at least two FC personnel.
The blast also left nine injured including FC personnel.
The injured were shifted to Khyber Teaching Hospital, while a search operation went underway.
Militants claim responsibility
A spokesman for militant commander Mast Gul claimed responsibility of a suicide attack near Iranian consulate in Peshawar.
“We sent a suicide bomber to target the Iranian consulate and Iranians inside the building,” the spokesman told a foreign news agency.
“They unfortunately remained safe. We will continue to target Iranian installations and the Shia community everywhere,” he added.
Jamrud blast injures one security personnel
Meanwhile, a blast went off near a vehicle of the security force in Jamrud tehsil of Khyber Agency that left one person injured, security sources said.
