PESHAWAR: Seventy-eight people were killed and one hundred and six injured in two suicide blasts at a Church in Peshawar on Sunday‚ September 22.

Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Zaheerul Islam said the bomber entered the church when concluding prayer was taking place and blew himself.

He said the death toll is likely to increase as some of the injured are in critical condition.

AIG Bomb Disposal Squad Shafqat Malik said at least 16 kilogram explosives were used in these blasts.

Immediately after the blast‚ Police and rescue teams reached the spot and cordoned off the entire area.

The dead bodies and injured were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital where emergency has been declared.

Expressing deep sorrow and grief‚ President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif have strongly condemned the bomb blasts.

In his message‚ the Prime Minister said the terrorists are targeting innocent people‚ which no religion allows.

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Engineer Shaukatullah and Chief Minister Parvez Khattak have also strongly condemned the suicide blasts.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has sought report about the incident from Inspector General Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
