BAHAWALPUR: At least 18 mourners, including a child, were killed and over 31 sustained injuries when an explosion occurred during a Chehlum procession near the Darbar-e-Hussain Imambargah in Khanpur city, about 145 kilometres from here on Sunday, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported

District Police Office Rahimyar Khan Sohail Zafar said the explosion went off as the mourners came out of a mosque. He added the bomb appeared to have been planted near an electric pole ahead of time in the path of the procession.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif condemned the bomb blast at the Chehlum procession and announced Rs500,000 for the family of each mourner who had died in the blast.
