The District Police Officer (DPO) DG Khan Ghulam Mubashir Mekan said that the blast targeted the election office of PML-N lawmaker in the National Assembly Sardar Amjad Farooq Khosa in Taunsa Sharif tehsil of Dera Ghazi Khan.

However, the MNA was not present in the office at the time of blast but more than 100 persons were there out of whom seven lost their lives while 15 others sustained injuries.

Meanwhile, the rescue team arrived at the blast site and shifted the dead bodies and injured persons to District Headquarters Hospital DG Khan.

The police personnel also reached the spot and cordoned off the area as well as launched an investigation into the incident.

Talking to media, Sardar Amjad Farooq Khosa told that he had arrived in Islamabad last night. He said that he did not receive any threat prior to the blast.

The blast has been carried out when the law enforcement agencies have intensified their actions across the province against banned outfits and suspected persons ahead of Muharram-ul-Haram.

On August 16, the Punjab Home Minister Colonel (retd) Shuja Khanzada was killed along with nearly 20 people in a suicide attack which struck his political office in Shadi Khan village of Attock.

Shuja Khanza also belonged to the ruling PML-N and his assassination was claimed by the outlawed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.
