Afghan Army taking advantage of North Waziristan Operation and conducting raids and killing militants
Islamabad: Taking advantage of operation in North Waziristan, Afghan forces have intensified attacks on Taliban across the border. At least 19 Taliban militants were killed following military operations by Afghan national security forces in the past 24 hours.
Militants are avoiding crossing Pak-Afghan border and disappearing in Pakistani tribal areas because a ground offense against terrorists is underway. This is giving us chance to clean our areas, said a local security official on the condition of anonymity as he is not authorized to talk with media.
Afghan Ministry of Interior (MoI), released a press statement on Saturday that the militants were killed during operations in Nangarhar, Maidan Wardak, Logar, Badghis and Helmand provinces.
The statement further added that the operations were jointly conducted by Afghan National Police (ANP), Afghan National Army and National Directorate of Security (NDS) operatives.
At least five Taliban militants were also injured and six others were detained during the operations, MoI said.
The statement claimed that NDS confiscated various types of heavy and light weapons along with ammunition and explosives during the operations.
The Taliban militants group has not commented regarding the report so far.
