ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: In a join operation conducted by police and Rangers in various parts of Islamabad on Thursday, 71 suspects including 20 Afghan nationals have been arrested.
The sources said that the operation was carried by the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) personnel in Golra, Pind Paracha, Bari Iman and Iqbal Town areas.
A large cache of arms and seven stolen motorcycles were also recovered from the possession of the arrested people.
The security forces have been carrying out search operations across the country since the anti-terror national plan action was adopted in December last year.
However, following the terror attack which struck the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) base camp in Peshawar’s Badaber area on September 18, the LEAs have intensified their actions against terrorists or suspected people through the country especially in the Federal Capital.
On Tuesday night, the Islamabad police arrested the sons of deceased Lal Masjid cleric Ghazi Abdul Rasheed after explosive material and uniform of security agencies were found in their vehicle near Super Market.
Later, a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against them at the Kohsar police station.
The police also arrested an activist of the outlawed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi in the Jhangi Syedan of Islamabad and recovered weapons, ammunition and hate material from his possession.
