ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has said that the government has proscribed 60 outfits and a special cell is being established to monitor the activities of these groups.
Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly on Wednesday, the minister said that steps have also been taken to check financing of terrorists. He said that a special cell has identified 26 cases of terrorism financing.
The interior minister said that 32 arrests have been made and an amount of Rs70 million has been recovered.
The minister told the House that 22 terrorists have been executed since the lifting of moratorium on death penalty in December last year. He said that the cases of another 17 terrorists are under process.
The National Assembly was told that the government has forwarded 20 cases to the army’s general headquarters in Rawalpindi for hearing in military courts. It was told that all the cases have been sent to the military courts after complete scrutiny by the apex committees and the interior ministry.
The minister for interior further told the House that hearing of 12 terror cases by the military courts will begin soon.
Talking about verifications of Subscriber Identity Modules (SIMs), the interior minister informed the House that 30 million SIMs have been verified in a month, and the remaining 70 million SIMs will be verified before April 9.
