32,347 persons arrested so far under NAP

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: As many as 32,347 persons have so far been arrested on different charges in 28, 826 operations across the country under the national action plan against terrorism.

In a report presented to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, it was stated that the security agencies conducted 14,791 operations in Punjab, 5,517 in Sindh, 6,461 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 84 in Balochistan, 405 in Islamabad, 1,394 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, 83 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 91 in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

Similar according to the report, 61 convicts have been executed who include 47 in Punjab, 11 in Sindh, 1 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 2 in Azad Kashmir since December 17 last year when the prime minister lifted a six-year moratorium on the death penalty.

The report states that in total, 887 cases have been registered for hate speech and material while 18,855 Afghan refugees have been deported and 354,672 registered after the NAP was adopted.

In addition, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has registered 64 cases for money transfer through Hawala Hundi, arresting 83 people and recovering Rs101.7 million.

Likewise, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) froze 120 accounts containing Rs10.1 billion balance.

A 20-point national plan of action was launched in a bid to root out terrorism in the country in the wake of a militant attack on December 2014 at the army-run school in Peshawar that left more than 150 people mostly school children dead.
