30 including key militant commanders killed in Khyber agency

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The security forces carried out aerial strikes in Tirah valley of the Khyber tribal region on Wednesday, killing at least 30 militants including important commanders.

In a statement, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that two caches of arms and ammunition were also destroyed.

The ISPR said that those killed in the air strikes in Tirah valley also included important commanders of militants.

On the other hand, media reports said citing local sources that a spokesman of the banned Lashkar-i-Islam (LI) militant organisation Salahuddin Ayubi was among those killed in today’s air blitz.

Earlier on Tuesday, according to media reports, at least 15 militants including foreigners were killed while several others injured in Tirah valley aerial strikes.

Five hideouts of the militants were also reportedly destroyed in those strikes.

The air strikes were part of the operation Khyber-I and Khyber-2 in the agency launched amidst a full-fledged military operation Zarb-e-Azb going on in the North Waziristan tribal region since June 15, 2014.
