25 militants killed in North Waziristan, Khyber strikes

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: At least 25 more militants were killed in aerial strikes in the North Waziristan and Khyber tribal regions on Wednesday, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

In a statement, the ISPR said that seven hideouts of the militants were also destroyed in air strikes which were carried out in Sanzela area of North Waziristan and Khyber agency’s Tirah valley.

The air strikes were part of the military operations Zarb-e-Azb and Khyber-1 which were launched against different banned militant organizations in North Waziristan and Khyber agency respectively last year.

A full-fledged military operation Zarb-e-Azb began in the North Waziristan tribal region on June 15 against militants in the wake of the June 8 attack on Jinnah International Airport in Karachi.

Later, the security forces also began the Khyber-I operation in the Khyber agency in October last year.

The operation Khyber-I was launched in Bara and Tirah Valley of the Khyber agency against Lashkar-e-Islam (LI), a banned militant organization active in and around the tribal region and is currently headed by Mangal Bagh.
