RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: At least 23 militants including key Taliban commanders were killed in aerial strikes carried out by the Pakistan’s military in the restive North Waziristan tribal region on Friday, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

The ISPR said that the airstrikes were conducted in Madda Khel area of Datta Khel in North Waziristan agency.

A huge quantity of arms and explosives as well as an underground tunnel system of the militants were also destroyed in airstrikes, the ISPR said.

Earlier in the day, the security forces killed a key militant commander Saddam in the Gundi area of Jamrud in Khyber agency.

In a press conference in Peshawar, the political agent Khyber agency Syed Shahab Ali Shah said that Saddam was wanted in the recent terrorist attack on the army public school in Peshawar and kidnapping for ransom.

The security forces also six other militants.

On the other hand, the security forces seized a huge quantity of arms and ammunition from a house during a search operation in Lakaro area of Safi tehsil in Mohmand agency on Friday.

The military sources said that 82 mortar shells, 66 antipersonnel mines, 35 kilograms explosive and dozens of rocket launcher cartridges were recovered during the search operation.

In addition, two persons were also arrested by security forces.
