23 more militants killed in North Waziristan aerial strikes

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: At least 23 more militants were killed in aerial strikes carried out by jet fighters in Shawal area of the restive North Waziristan tribal region on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that four hideouts of the militants were also destroyed through “effective and precise aerial strikes”.

The air strikes were part of the ongoing military operation Zarb-e-Azb being carried out against different banned terror outfits in the country’s northwester tribal region since June 15.

Earlier in the day, during a meeting with an 18-member delegation of the Afghan Parliament in Islamabad on Wednesday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that the ongoing Zarb-e-Azb operation has dismantled terrorist networks and their infrastructure in North Waziristan agency.

The armed forces have intensified their countrywide operations against militants in the wake of the deadly terror attack that hit an army public school in Peshawar on December 16 and killed 150 persons mostly children.

On December 24, the prime minister told the parliamentary leaders who met in Islamabad to finalize a national action plan against terrorism that that there is a dire need to expand the military operation Zarb-e-Azb to the entire country against those elements who want to destabilize Pakistan.

“Zarb-e-Azb operation is successfully going on in North Waziristan,” the prime minister said.
