RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: A total of 48 militants were killed in fresh aerial strikes carried out by the security forces on Friday in the Khyber agency, one of Pakistan’s seven semi-autonomous regions near the Afghan border.
In a statement, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the strikes were conducted in Tirah Valley of the Khyber tribal region.
The ISPR said that fighter jets took part in the operation and targeted the hideouts of terrorists.
The air strikes were part of the operation Khyber-I in the Khyber agency launched in October last year amidst a full-fledged military operation Zarb-e-Azb going on in the North Waziristan tribal region since June 15, 2014.
Earlier on Thursday, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif and the Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt together visited the North Waziristan agency, were briefed about the ongoing military operation Zarb-e-Azb against various banned militant outfits.
On the occasion, the army chief appreciated the efficacy of use of air power with ground operations. The COAS also reaffirmed commitment to eliminate all terrorists.
