PESHAWAR: At least 20 militants were killed when army gunship helicopters pounded militant hideouts in Kutabkhel area of Miranshah tehsil in North Waziristan on Friday as a part of the ongoing operation ‘Zarb-e-Azb’ against local and foreign militants in the tribal region, a senior security official said.

Meanwhile, the director general of the FATA Disaster Management Authority Arshad Khan told that some 157,000 people have arrived in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from different areas of North Waziristan since the Pakistan army launched a full-scale military operation in the tribal region earlier this week.

Khan said that registration points and camps have been set up to deal with the influx of people in Bannu.

On Wednesday, a three-day relaxation was given in curfew to give civilians a chance to leave before troops began a full-blooded ground operation.
