13 dead in attack on Shi pilgrims bus in Quetta

QUETTA: At least 13 people lost their lives and 30 others were injured when a powerful bomb blast targeted Shia pilgrims in the Hazar Gunji area, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported on 28 June, 2012. Hospital sources feared that the death toll may rise, as many of the injured are in a critical condition.

A passenger bus, escorted by a police van, carrying 40 Shia pilgrims, was on its way from the Pak-Iran border at Taftan to Quetta. When the bus reached the Hazar Gunji area in the outskirts of the provincial capital, it was targeted by a powerful bomb, police officials said.

CCPO Quetta Mir Zubair told Dispatch News Desk (DND) that “in view of the evidence, it seems that the explosives were fixed to a car which went off as the bus approached the site.”

Officials of the bomb disposal squad said “over 40-50kgs of explosive material was used in the explosion.”
