12 TTP militants killed in Khyber agency air strikes

PESHAWAR, Pakistan: The security forces carried out fresh aerial strikes in Tirah Valley of the Khyber tribal region on Monday that left at least 12 militants dead and 15 others injured, the security sources said.

The security sources said that the strikes were carried out in Koki Khel area of Tirah Valley, adding that seven hideouts of the militants were also destroyed.

Moreover, they said that those killed in air strikes belonged to the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a banned militant outfit which has claimed responsibilities for most of the terror attacks across the country including the Peshawar army public school attack occurred on December 16.

The air strikes were part of the ongoing operation Khyber-I began in October last year the Khyber agency, one of Pakistan’s seven semi-autonomous tribal regions near the Afghan border.

The Khbyer-1 was launched amidst a full-fledged military operation Zarb-e-Azb launched in the North Waziristan tribal region on June 15 last year.

The security forces have stepped up their activities against militants across the country in the wake of Peshawar school attack and the launching of national action plan against terrorism.
