Overview

Just a few months ago, Microsoft launched the Surface Laptop 2 which had pretty good reviews. Microsoft announced the new Surface Laptop 3 on October 2, 2019 at its Surface event in New York. Microsoft has gone and doubled down on its traditional flagship laptop, the Surface Laptop 3, with its revised 13-inch model gaining 10-nanometer (nm) Intel performance and its new 15-inch model rocking a custom-built AMD Ryzen processor (CPU). Like the Surface Laptop 2, the Laptop 3 is a 13.5-inch clamshell touchscreen laptop, but will now also come in a larger 15-inch size. It will also be the first Surface Laptops to have a USB-C port instead of mini-Display Port.

Surface Laptop 3 Specifications

On the inside there are a lot of solid things, 10th-gen quad-core 10nm Intel processors which will make the 13.5-inch Laptop 3 three times more powerful than a current MacBook Air. AMD got involved with the 15-inch Surface Laptop 3, too, creating a Ryzen Surface Edition graphics processor. During the event Microsoft Chief Product Officer Panos Panay said, “This is the most powerful mobile processor AMD has ever created,” Panay said. “It’s actually the fastest processor for any laptop in its class today.”

The new Surface 3 will charge quickly, too. Microsoft worked closely with Intel and AMD to make it possible to charge the Laptop 3 up to 80% in less than an hour. This laptop can reach an AMD Ryzen 7 CPU, up to 32GB of RAM and as much as 512GB of SSD space. It comes with a new aluminum finish that comes in sandstone or silver colors. The laptop is light for its size, weighing just 3.4 pounds (1.54kg) and measuring 13.4 x 9.6 x .57 inches (339.5 x 224 x 14.69mm). The screen has a pixel density of 201 pixels per inch, or ppi as well as maintain Microsoft’s signature 3:2 aspect ratio. The 13-inch version keeps its 2,256 x 1,504 resolution

Surface Laptop 3 Price

The smaller 13.5-inch Surface Laptop 3 starts at $999 while the 15-inch model starts $200 higher at $1,199
