PESHAWAR, Pakistan: Department of Information Technology Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and a multinational company Huawei Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under which the later would provide higher education scholarships to KPK people attached with IT sector at universities of China.

The agreement is meant to enable IT people of KP to get higher education and get better employment opportunities in national and international markets, an official of IT department said adding that Huawei Company would initiate “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Huawei Scholarship program” and would provide scholarships to KPK people.

In the first phase, Huawei would provide training to IT people in Huawei certification and successful candidates of the course would get internships in the company, he informed.

Under the agreement the two stakeholders would also cooperate in promotion of IT sector in KPK and the company would work as a consultant to KP department of Science and IT, he told.

Speaking on this occasion, Senior Minister for IT and Health, Sheram Tarakai, who was the chief guest of the event, said the signing of MoU between KPK IT department and Huawei is first step towards promotion of IT.

He said the KP government has declared 2016 the year of technology and would invite various IT companies to invest in the province, adding that signing of the agreement with Huawei is a step in this connection.

He informed the participants that the KPK IT department arranged a successful event of “Civic Hacathon” last year while it has set up two IT parks and two more are being established, adding that IT laboratories are also being established at district level.

On this occasion, Managing Director Huawei Pakistan appreciated the initiates of KP government for promotion of IT and said that KPK government has provided a conducive environment to investors in the province.

He said Huawei Pakistan has availed the opportunity as provided by KPK government and decided to work with it, adding that Huawei intends to further cooperate with provincial government in the field of IT.
