A Sneak Peak into Sony Xperia Z5

TechnologyA Sneak Peak into Sony Xperia Z5

The Sony Xperia Z5 Premium is set to be made publicly available soon. The flagship device is Sony’s answer to Samsung’s Note series and rightfully challenges the Note 5 in all aspects. Today, we will curtly compare the two devices and see which device comes up on top.

In terms of appearances and design, we couldn’t help but appreciate the Z5 Premium’s minimalistic design. Albeit, the Note 5 has a curvy body, the fact that it’s sleeker and easier to hold than the Z5, we have to say the Note 5 wins in terms of design.

For performance, both devices match up quite well. For an everyday user the increase in Sony’s processing power with its Snapdragon 810 processor or Samsung’s better 4GB RAM storage compared to 3 GB of Sony’s should bring no worries, as both the devices will tend to have you covered in terms of performance for quite a while. However, we must say Sony does take the cake slightly by offering an extendable microSD card slot which is something the Note 5 lacks, though one can make up for it by purchasing the 64 GB variant of the Samsung flagship.

Comparing the rest of the non important specs and features, we find that both the devices pack somewhat the same battery, with the Xperia taking the edge slightly. Samsung does get the upper hand in terms of its stylus and air memo features but Sony bounces back (at least in our books) with its minimalistic Xperia UI running on Android 5.1.1. Now, we know Samsung did make the extra effort this time by removing many unnecessary features from their TouchWiz UI, but in the end they still have a long way to go.

Before you get all crossed that we called the battery capacity a non important spec, you should remember that both these devices pack a batter which is large enough to support one day of abuse. Of course, Sony has managed to deliver 400 mAH more than Samsung but we have to remember that the Xperia Z5 would also be running a 4k display, which will consume more power than the Note 5 display.

This brings us to our last two comparisons, the display and the cameras. In terms of display, the Xperia Z5 Premium has no match as it is the first ever smartphone to feature a 4k display. Everything is much sharper, crisp and just fun to look at. As for the camera, well considering that the Xperia Z5 Premium is being released a bit later than the Note 5, it doesn’t really come as a big shocker that it packs a better 23 megapixel rear camera with quite a few extra perks. In our honest opinion, both these devices have more than enough power in their cameras to support your everyday need, with the Z5 Premium being able to deliver the better results (at least theoretically as we have still to test the Z5 Premium’s camera by hand).

All in all, both the devices are truly technological marvels and somewhat deserve the absurd price tag they carry. If you already own a Note 5, we see no reason to switch over unless you’re someone who just wants the biggest toy in town. However, if you’re someone who is still trying to decide what premium device to buy, we would advise you to wait just a few weeks more and get the Z5 premium as it is somewhat the better device.
