ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Energy Hammad Azhar has said that 70 percent of smartphones are now assembled in Pakistan, and hoped that soon the Country will start exporting them.

In a statement on Twitter on Wednesday, the minister said that three years after the launching of the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) and a year after the Mobile Manufacturing Policy was launched, 70 percent of smartphones are now assembled in Pakistan.

Hammad Azhar said that Samsung has also unveiled its first locally assembled smartphone.

“The next step is exporting these (smart) phones Insha Allah,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister’s Adviser for Commerce and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood on behalf of the Ministry of Finance has congratulated Samsung & Lucky Group for launching the first locally manufactured mobile phone under Samsung’s brand.

“This is an achievement of the Ministry of Finance’s Make-In-Pakistan Policy,” he wrote on Twitter.

The adviser urged local businesses to explore opportunities for similar collaborations in various sectors in order to become a part of the global value chain.
