Zong ‘Lakh Pati’ Offer

There has been a lot of talk (not to mention random news snippets) going about now a days about who is going to acquire 3G services and who is going for the 4G. While the whole thing might be confusing for most people, it’s really not that hard to understand. Like for example most people you know would only know that getting 3G or 4G would mean better internet speeds for your smartphones and finally having the ability to browse videos etc. with ease which is more or less quite an accurate description of the whole thing in laymen terms.

That being said, there is a lot more to the whole 3G and 4G network. 3G basically stands for “Third Generation” and is the successor to the EDGE technology which many of us use now a days to access the internet via our smartphones. This technology in theory provides it users with the speed to download data equivalent to a song per minute – however, in reality the actual experienced speeds are mostly somewhat less than that. To be more technical, a 3G network can get you the speed of 400Kbps to 10 times of that depending upon which variant of the technology you’re using. The whole thing depends upon the strength of towers in your area. 3G signals are transmitted via phone tower to phone tower and therefore a dip in speed is experienced whenever you’re in an area that doesn’t have good signal strength.

Now that you’ve gained a bit of understanding about the 3G networks, you are in a position to know what exactly is 4G. Well just like 3G, 4G is the next generation of internet connectivity and stands for “Fourth Generation”. As for the actual speed of a 4G network well, they are five times faster than any existing 3G service, which in laymen terms is quite a lot. Of course, now the question pops up that which network should you choose? Well, it all depends upon your data usage. If you’re a person who is constantly on the go and needs his/her phone battery to be used smartly or you’re a person who only wants to use apps like Viber or Skype, then I would suggest that you go for a 3G network as 4G consumes a lot of power. However, having a 4G network will ensure that you get better streaming. Of course, one thing you should always remember is that 4G phones are somewhat expensive and if you must go for one I would suggest that you go for a 4G LTE phone. Also as always, the more data you use the bigger the charges you will see on your bill. So in terms of pocket friendliness 3G is far better than 4G.

So after spending a day at Zong HQ and talking to their engineers, I question popped out in my mind and that was what exactly does it mean for Pakistan? Well, with the arrival of the 3G and 4G networks we won’t really feed our hungry or bring the basic human necessities that are lacking to our people but it will push our nation towards an era of “smartness” where their smart phones will finally be able to stay connected to the internet 24/7. Now I would like to say that this would mean that we will have a constant access to information on our fingertips but it would be nothing more than a dream as we all know that most users (just like users abroad) will only use this technology to stream songs or videos and browse social networking sites with high speed.  Zong will be launching 4G in all major cities very soon and they have already tested their 4G at the speed of 32MBPS. Yes, I know, I may very well be wrong about the whole thing and I for one, do pray that I am but then again this is something that only time will tell.
