ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Cabinet has re-appointed Tariq Malik as the Chairman of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

   

Briefing the media about decisions taken by the Federal Cabinet that met in Islamabad on Tuesday with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the Chair, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhary Fawad Hussain told that the Cabinet also appointed Mubashir Hassan as the Managing Director of the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).

The information minister told that the demonstration process of the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), under the government’s electoral reforms agenda, will be completed within a week.

The minister said that initially, we have ordered 500 EVMs for trials in the elections of Bar Councils and Press Clubs. He said that all the 36 conditions of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) have been fulfilled in the initial trials of the EVMs. He said that the EVMs are being manufactured by three companies.

Fawad Hussain said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has filed a petition in the court to deprive the Overseas Pakistanis of their right to vote while it is among our top priorities to give them the basic rights of voting as we consider them an integral part of the Country. He said that we are waiting for Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) response in this regard to finalize the legislative procedure.

To a question, the minister said that we are ready to negotiate with the opposition but there would be no compromise on bargaining with corrupt elements.

Chaudhary Fawad Hussain said that it is condemnable that PML-N does not want to give the right of vote to the Overseas Pakistanis.

The information minister further told that Prime Minister Imran Khan directed the Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Haider Zaidi to finalize the reforms in transportation and logistics.

The Federal Cabinet was informed that around 17 million people are getting benefits of the Ehsaas program. The data of the Ehsaas program is being digitalized to make it more transparent.

The Cabinet was also briefed that Utility Stores Corporation (USC) is making sales of over Rs 100 billion and the first time it has come out of loss.

The Federal Cabinet approved the Corona relief package for Tajikistan to help fight against the pandemic. It also accorded the approval to record the national anthem of Pakistan in modern vogue.
