RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: A day after an additional district and sessions judge was shot dead in Rawalpindi, the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed to have been involved in his killing.

The additional district and sessions judge Tahir Khan Niazi was gunned down by unknown assailants at his house in Rawalpindi’s Satellite Town area on Wednesday.

“Our special task force has targeted additional session judge Tahir Khan Niazi in Rawalpindi successfully,” the TTP spokesman Muhammad Khorasani said in an emailed statement on Thursday.

However, the TTP spokesman did not mention that why Tahir Khan Niazi was targeted.

Meanwhile, police officials are investigating this case purely on the lines of links of cases deceased was hearing and his death. Meanwhile, police sources indicate that if Judge was really murdered by TTP then there could be links of TTP with land mafia of Rawalpindi because deceased judge was hearing very sensitive and important cases against land mafia of Rawalpindi.

The police said that the gunmen arrived on motorcycle and entered Niazi’s house. They shot the judge with a 30-bore pistol and fled away successfully.

The injured judge was rushed to the Benazir Bhutto Hospital but he succumbed to his injuries whiling getting treatment in the hospital.

The sources said that in addition to other important cases, the judge had been hearing a murder case involving Imtiaz Khokhar alias Taji Khokhar, a brother of the former national assembly deputy speaker Haji Nawaz Khokar.

The court was expected to announce its decision by the end of the month.
